Congratulations to all 2024 Excellence in Design Awards winners!   American Buildings has announced the winners of its 2024 Excellence in Design Awards. The competition is designed to highlight the diverse application and expanding boundaries of the metal buildings industry. Winners, first and second runners-up, and honorable mentions were chosen in 12 categories. A top award, Building of the Year, was then chosen among the winners from each category.   Top Awards went to NW Line JATC by Authorized Builder JHC Commercial for Building of the Year; Builders First Source by Authorized Builder Big Johnson Construction for Silver; and Legacy Steel by Authorized Builder Guzman Case Corporation for Bronze. “We’re delighted to showcase the skill and innovation of our Builders through the 2024 Excellence In Design competition,” said Carlie Smith, Marketing Director for Nucor Buildings Group. “These award-winning projects are as beautiful as they are functional, demonstrating the versatility of metal buildings in today’s competitive and fast-paced construction industry. This year, submissions were strong in many categories, including transportation, manufacturing/industrial, and government/institutional markets. The project, totaling nearly 200,000 sf, includes both an indoor and a covered arena, which will utilize Metl-Span Insulated Metal Panels on the walls, as well as American’s Loc Seam 360 Roof System. Greeley Stampede Stage serves jointly as a concert and special events venue. Special features include three individual bi-fold doors, an elevated concrete stage floor, two exterior support wings for audio-video monitors, a full-height liner panel with midnight black painted finish, and a spectator/VIP lounge mezzanine area. American Buildings is excited to showcase the 2023 Excellence in Design third-place winner in the Manufacturing/Industrial category. This massive steel processing facility for Acero Prime Feralloy utilizes six total metal framing structures. Overhead cranes are included in every bay, leaving them with a total of 8, ranging from 35 to 60 tons. Two rail spurs are used inside the building to help accommodate coils received directly from the mill. The Solon Firehouse apparatus bay addition provides over 10,000 sf of space for multiple bunk rooms, a weight room, and an emergency tornado shelter area for the public. This maintenance shop for JD Eckman is fully equipped with two 5-ton crane bays and vertical lift overhead doors, allowing them to handle even the most complex projects. It has many great features, including heavy-duty reinforced and hardened concrete floors, below-eave canopies, a mezzanine for storage, and two partition walls.
