Kansas City, MO - A two-day seminar on metal roof systems sponsored by Butler Manufacturing™ in August 2012 drew maximum attendance by professional roof consultants and facility managers, reports Rodger Russ, North American sales manager for the Butler Manufacturing™ Roof Group. The attendees included 29 members of the Roof Consultants Institute (RCI, Inc.) who were eligible for eight continuing education credits.
The comprehensive seminar addressed engineering issues and performance features in metal roof system specifications that ensure a quality metal roof installation, along with current trends in energy codes, daylighting, advancements in roof curbs and penetrations, insulation barriers and other factors that will continue to affect the roofing segment of the construction industry.
“I didn’t have a lot of metal roof experience and the information presented to us was impressive,” said Bryan Brunow, RRO, with Benchmark, Inc, an independent roof consulting company based in Cedar Rapids, IA. “The seminar really opened my eyes to this option, especially with its increased use on new conventional construction and for reroofing where complete tear-offs would be difficult.”
As part of the seminar the group participated in a tour of the 11-acre Butler Research Center, a unique testing and product development complex established more than 50 years ago in the Kansas City suburb of Grandview, MO. They were introduced to nationally recognized methods for testing standing seam metal roof systems for wind uplift, energy efficiency using a large guarded hot box, roof-integrated daylight harvesting systems and materials, fastener and coating integrity. In 1969, Butler Manufacturing introduced the MR-24® standing seam metal roof system from the Center that has earned applications on more than two billion square feet of buildings on every continent.
