Varco Pruden Buildings supplied the material for a new 16,672 sq. ft., 85' tall, concrete batch plant enclosure for Geiger Ready Mix in Kansas City, KS. Crossland Construction Company Inc. of Columbus, KS was the Authorized VP Builder and the designer was AGC Engineers Inc. of Liberty, MO.

The project consists of a Rigid Frame main structure, 24-gauge Panel Rib wall panels in Granite Grey color, and a 24-gauge High Wind Roof over the top of the Sky-Web fall protector. The 109' x 108' building features a complex shape and a triple-sloped roof.

"Varco Pruden produced and delivered a well-engineered building, saving time on construction," said Todd Geiger of Geiger Ready Mix. "Any time you build 85 feet in the air, you have concerns with strength and quality, but the Crossland team and Varco Pruden delivered a rock solid building."

The unique shape and height of the structure, in combination with assembling the building over the top of an existing concrete batch plant, created a challenging project. The challenges were overcome by assembling as many pieces as possible prior to hoisting them into place. Erection crews assembled the roof structure in complete "pods", minimizing the need for workers to be exposed to dangerous heights and reducing the potential for dropping tools and materials that would endanger people and property below.

The project was completed in June 2016.
