Five buildings, totaling approximately 90,000 sq. ft., make up the Pan Pacific Cement facility at the Port Of Sacramento in West Sacramento, CA. VP Buildings supplied the metal buildings that were used for this impressive complex that was completed on a fast track schedule and called for a 200’ clearspan in the main building.

Building 1 is 202’8” wide x 404’8” long x 30’ high. The cement terminal powder storage features VP Open Web Truss framing. VP Buildings’ Galvalume-coated steel Panel Rib panels were used on the roof, while the walls are concrete tilt-up hardwall construction. Cement powder is imported by ship to the Port Of Sacramento, unloaded with vacuum equipment, and transported under pressure from the docks to the building in underground piping that continues above grade into the building. The piping is suspended from the roof of the building and dumps concrete powder into the building. The building is completely filled with concrete powder which is pushed into pits that feed a bucket elevator that loads tanks. Cement bulk trucks are filled from the storage tanks in a truck load-out area.

Building 2 is 35’ wide x 70’ long x 24’ high. Used as administrative offices and a maintenance shop, the building features a VP Clearspan Rigid Frame building system. VP’s Galvalume-coated steel Panel Rib profile was used on the roof; the walls are Ash Gray Panel Rib.

Building 3 is 15’4” wide x 67’7” long x 11’6” high. An equipment enclosure building to house large generators and mechanicals, this is a VP Single Slope Lean-To building. VP’s Ash Gray Panel Rib profile was used on both the roof and walls.

Building 4 is 15’4” wide x 31’5” long x 11’6” high. An equipment enclosure building to house large compressors and mechanicals, this is a VP Single Slope Lean-To building. VP’s Ash Gray Panel Rib profile was used on both the roof and walls.

Building 5 is 17’ wide x 19’ long x 130’ high. This tower encloses the bucket elevator used for drawing cement powder out of the main powder storage building and into conical bottom tanks in the truck load-out area. Knight Building Systems performed a design/build on this tower, using structural steel framing with zee girts from VP for secondary framing. VP’s Ash Gray Panel Rib profile was used on the walls.

Knight Building Systems Inc., Santa Clarita, CA, was the VP Buildings authorized builder. Design was handled by FBA Inc./Knight Building Systems.
