Char-Broil, a division of W.C. Bradley Co., is one of the oldest and most respected outdoor gas-cooking brands. More Char-Broil gas grills are distributed across the United States than any other brand and exported as well to Canada, Latin America, and Australia. Located in Columbus, GA, Char-Broil manufactures out of a large pre-engineered metal building complex that has undergone many expansions over the years to keep up with their demand in the outdoor cooking marketplace. From time-to-time, older roof areas of the complex need repair with some requiring a full replacement or recover when roof service life has reached its end.

In 2012, W.C. Bradley’s Real Estate Division called upon Steve Howard, owner of CAMSCO Inc. in Phenix City, AL to recover an older roof on the facility. Howard has been installing metal roofs at Char-Broil and for other customers in his locale since 1992. The 2012 Char-Broil project was a smaller cousin to a much larger one completed in 2010 where a sub-framing system by Roof Hugger Inc. of Odessa, FL was used. Prior to that, Howard had used Roof Huggers on multiple projects going back to 2004.

When asked why he utilizes Roof Hugger products, Howard explained that he had used all types of sub-framing methods before discovering Roof Hugger. He went on to say that Roof Huggers are structurally correct for wind uplift, compensate for the added weight of the new reroofing components, install considerably faster and the Hugger team is great to work with, noting that they will bend over backwards to help.

The 2012 reroof project for Char-Broil included 2,500 lineal feet of Roof Hugger’s standard roll-formed Model “C” fitted for installation over the existing 12” on center R-panels. Atop the Huggers, 6,250 square feet of Architectural Integrated Metals’ (AIM) PBR-Span panels were installed; the panels are 26-gauge with a bare Galvalume® finish. AIM is also located in Columbus, GA which helped with the “Fast-Track” schedule that is common on metal-over-metal retrofit recover applications.

About Roof Hugger

roof hugger logoRoof Hugger notched sub-purlins enable replacement of new metal roof panels over an old metal roof. They can be used over screw-down or standing seam roof systems and can accommodate new standing seam or screw-down panels. Roof Huggers also maintain integrity of original design loadings; achieve "thermal break" air space between old and new roof sheets; allow for optional insulation; and are laboratory and load tested—with certified load charts. For more information on metal-over-metal retrofit re-roofing, contact Roof Hugger at 800-771-1711 or visit www.roofhugger.com.
