Gulf Gate Public Library

New Library’s Craftsman Style Design Includes Metal Roofing From Petersen Aluminum

The new Gulf Gate Public Library in Sarasota, Florida has proudly opened as a sparkling, high-tech replacement for the highly used but aging facility previously located on the same site. Copper was initially considered for the roofing material but proved to be too expensive. Ultimately, approximately 15,000 sq. ft. of Petersen Aluminum’s PAC-CLAD Tite-Loc Plus panels and 8,000 sq. ft. of Snap-Clad panels were utilized to help accomplish the design objectives and stay within budget. All panels on the multi-sloped roof are 24 gauge and finished in Champagne color.

“The aesthetics of the library are intended to reflect the Craftsman style of architecture endemic to the area,” said Amy Weber, architect with Harvard Jolly Architects, the firm that created the design.

“We really had outstanding partners on this job,” said Dave Landis, Petersen’s architectural/technical sales manager. “We have long-term, solid relationships with all companies involved on the project. And I think that shows in the quality of the work and the spirit in which it was accomplished.”

Installation of the roof was accomplished by Sutter Roofing Co., Sarasota. The general contractor on the project was Willis Smith Construction, Sarasota. The Petersen Aluminum distributor was ABC Supply.
