MBMA Updates Energy Design Guide For Metal Building Systems

mbma-energy-design-guideCleveland, OH - The Metal Building Manufacturers Association’s (MBMA) Energy Design Guide for Metal Building Systems, Second Edition, is now available in print or as a PDF.

Through easy online ordering, this resource will put energy code compliance and design information into the hands of anyone involved in construction and interested in increasing energy efficiency. It is useful for building owners, architects, engineers, builders, contractors, building officials, specifiers, and metal building manufacturers. The information can be applied to both new and existing buildings.

This publication provides a detailed overview of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and ASHRAE Standard 90.1 provisions with specific application to metal building systems. The updated version incorporates 2012 and 2015 International Energy Conservation Codes, as well as the 2010 and 2013 editions of ASHRAE Standard 90.1. Additional commentary has been incorporated to address the latest editions of green building codes, standards, and rating systems.

This comprehensive guide was developed by MBMA members who volunteer their time and expertise to the MBMA Energy Committee.

MBMA Director of Architectural Services Jay Johnson acted as the technical editor for the guide. He said, “The building sector currently represents more than 40% of national energy consumption, 54% of natural gas consumption, and more than 70% of national electricity consumption. As a result, energy codes and standards, along with voluntary programs, continue to call for a reduction in the consumption of energy in buildings. Additionally, national public policy mandates for more energy-efficient codes.”

The second edition of the Energy Design Guide for Metal Building Systems synthesizes pertinent information on how to design, construct and maintain metal buildings to be in compliance with these codes. The guide has 10 chapters and over 200 pages. It begins by introducing metal building systems and applications, and then proceeds to chapters on energy code fundamentals, insulating metal building systems, cool roofs, and how to implement daylighting.

The newly released manual is available now for $99 for non-members and $60 for MBMA members, and can be purchased at www.techstreet.com/MBMA.
