Conco Construction, an American Buildings Company (ABC) Authorized Builder, developed the new Learjet Flight Test Building 18 structure in Wichita, Kansas. The new metal building provides two, 204-foot clear span hangar doors that were necessary for the aircraft to enter and exit the facility.

The new 90,000-square-foot project is clad with taupe sand Architectural II wall panels and Standing Seam 360 roof panels. The building includes two identical hangars with a two-story office space separating them.

The hangars have a clear opening of 200 feet by 24 feet and were built with Megadoor brand fabric hangar doors. This three-part door allows for one, two or all three parts of the door to be opened. A foam fire protection system includes 2,000 feet of concrete trenches and sloped floors to account for fueled aircraft. Additionally, the building is daylighted by 72 skylights.

For their work on the project, Conco Construction was awarded first place in the 2014 ABC Excellence in Design Awards in the Transportation category. The ABC Excellence in Design Awards program recognizes Builders and Roofers for their innovation in design and metal systems construction.
