Located just north of Dallas, the 75-square-mile Frisco Independent School District is one of the fastest growing school districts in Texas and the nation. The mission of the District’s new Career and Technical Education Center is to prepare students for college and the 21st-century workforce in a competitive global economy.

Architectural design for the 125,000 sq. ft. facility was provided by SHW Group, Inc., Plano, TX. The design complements the traditional-style architectural fabric of Frisco while presenting a future-minded appearance. Approximately 12,000 sq. ft. of RHEINZINK® 1.0mm/20 gauge Graphite-Gray Flat-Lock Tiles were utilized as an integral design element.

“This was a great project to work on,” said Kent Leach, project architect. “The District allowed us design freedom because the Center supports several high schools. RHEINZINK had been on our radar for some time. It’s an exciting material and we really like the running bond that can be created.”

The 18”x 32” RHEINZINK Flat-Lock Tiles interface with aluminum composite material and masonry.

“The design expresses the elements in the school,” according to Leach. “The forms are somewhat programmatic because of the curriculum being taught. For example, the form clad with RHEINZINK includes the architectural / engineering / animation curriculum.”

Installation of the RHEINZINK was done by NOW Specialties, Inc., Carrollton, TX. The general contractor on the project was Cadence McShane Construction, Dallas.
