Mid America Baptist Theological Seminary

Petersen Metal Roofing Selected For New High-Tech Campus Building

After years of shared space and retrofitted facilities, Mid America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, TN, has a brand new, high-tech campus building constructed to meet its specific needs.

The 130,000 sq. ft. main building includes a 1,000-seat auditorium, 13 classrooms, eight lecture and seminar halls, dining hall and full-service bookstore open to the public.

Approximately 34,000 sq. ft. of Petersen 18” Snap-Clad™ panels finished in Dark Bronze was utilized for the mansard style roof. In addition, 26,000 sq. ft. of material finished in Bone White was used for custom fascia and cornices.

Architectural design for the project was provided by Fisher & Arnold, Inc., Memphis. According to principal-in-charge Howard Glatstein, “The building is a college campus but with all facilities under one roof. The design had to blend with the architecture of the across-the-street Bellevue Baptist Church because the church had donated 35 acres to Mid America for the project."

He continued, "We wanted a sturdy, classy, traditional feel that would give the building a sense of permanence and strength. From the beginning, metal was the roof material of choice because of its classic look, low maintenance and longevity. Any other roofing material such as asphalt or fiberglass shingles would have been very weak looking.”

Installation of the Petersen 18” Snap-Clad™ roof was done by Ralph Jones Sheet Metal Inc., Memphis. The general contractor on the project was Linkous Construction Co., Memphis.
