Although not designed with publicity in mind, the new offices of an unnamed Chicago law firm are certainly worthy of attention. Conceived by Chicago’s 4240 Architecture and completed in October 2011, the 10,000 sq. ft. building’s features a glass façade behind a unique 3/16”-thick perforated aluminum screen wall.
Seventy perforated panels were needed to create the 1,200 sq. ft. screen wall and all were custom. They were produced in an array of 20 different sizes, with each panel having a unique hole pattern. The panels were manufactured by Accurate Perforating of Chicago out of 505 aluminum with an architectural grade clear anodize finish.
In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, the screen serves a practical function, providing privacy by reducing the ability to see in from the street while still admitting plenty of natural light.
Handling the installation was Glass Solutions Inc. of Chicago. Norcon Inc., also of Chicago, was the general contractor.
