The Mattos House in Fort Myers, Florida, represents the new standard in energy efficient, environmentally friendly design. Constructed with structural insulated panels (SIPS) and topped with jobsite rollformed metal roofing, the house is also strong enough to withstand hurricane-force winds.

Structural insulated panels (SIPS) are widely regarded for the efficiencies they bring to the construction process as is jobsite rollformed metal roofing. While factory formed metal roofing panels are limited in length by transportability, jobsite rollformed panels can be formed to whatever lengths are needed, in excess of 300’, eliminating the need to splice panels together on long roof runs. The process can also result in material savings and lower installation costs.

Crowther Roofing and Sheet Metal of Florida, Inc. fabricated and installed the 1” Snap-Lock standing seam roofing for the Mattos House. Ruben Ponce, project manager, said his firm sometimes hoists the portable rollforming machinery right up to the roof, eliminating the need for a crane and operator during the fabrication process.

Crowther Roofing is a Sentrigard™ Metal Roofing Systems Certified Contractor and is headquartered in Ft. Myers, FL. The company fabricated the building’s 17”-wide, 24-gauge Galvalume-coated steel metal roofing system using a Schlebach Quadro portable rollformer and Sentriclad™ Architectural Metals, both distributed by N.B. Handy under the umbrella of its Sentrigard™ Metal Roofing Systems program.

The metal roofing panels were attached to the roof decking over a peel and stick underlayment, using galvanized steel roof clips fastened into the deck. The fasteners were spaced to give the roof a 130 mph wind load rating.
