Rice University’s Duncan and McMurtry Colleges were recently topped off with DuraZinc™ metal roofs from Architectural Building Components of Houston, TX. With the selection, the buildings are equipped to withstand Houston’s sometimes volatile weather conditions for the majority of the 21st century.

Architectural Building Components offers both job-site and factory panel production, but in the case of the Rice roofs, the zinc roof panels were manufactured in the plant. Using detailed measurements the company was able to produce panels with differing top and bottom measurements to precisely fit the complex geometry of the buildings’ roofs.

In all, the two buildings required approximately 60,000 sq. ft. of metal roofing material. Handling the installation was Marton Roofing. Hopkins Architects (USA) served as design architect, while Hanbury Evans Wright Vlattas + Company served as executive architect.
