Avalon Elementary School

McElroy Metal

During the planning stages for the Avalon Elementary School in Perris, California, the building team sought a design that would coordinate with surrounding residential development. While standing seam roofing was originally considered because of its durability and low maintenance, the team wanted a product with more of a residential look. Met-Tile roofing from McElroy Metal provided the light weight and performance features of metal roofing, combined with a tile facsimile profile that provided the desired aesthetics.

Approximately 64,000 sq. ft. of Met-Tile roofing in 26 GA zinc-aluminum coated steel was used to cover a total of seven buildings, including administration, library, a media center and classroom facilities. Met-Tile provided Spanish-style flashings to optimize the Mission look of the roof lines. The Met-Tile panels have a standard width of 36” and were produced in special lengths up to 25-ft. for this project. The panels have a custom Copper Penny, Super 4800 silicone modified polyester finish.

The builder was Barratt American, Lake Elsinore, CA, and the roofing installer was United Contractors, San Bernardino, CA. The designer was DC Architects, Upland, CA. The general contractor/construction manager was ASR Constructors, Riverside, CA.
