The Copain Winery is owned by Copain Wine Cellars LLC in Healdsburg, California (Sonoma County) which distributes its top-quality wines across the United States. The company uses “Old-World” techniques in their wine making as to avoid intervention in their process. This project was no different – the pre-engineered metal buildings, incorporated on the 20-acres of land, also needed to fulfill the company’s approach.

The first metal building (A) houses the fermentation tanks while the other (B) holds the barrels in which the grapes are crushed and processed. Both buildings are lean-to structures and measure 32’-9” x 127’-11” x 20‘-5” (building A), 33’-9” x 75’-4” x 20’5” (building B) and total 10,000 square feet.

The two buildings incorporated Metallic’s Lokseam roof panels and PBC endwall and sidewall panels. The Lokseam roof was installed over 4” API and was chosen for its low maintenance and aesthetics. The roof’s aesthetics were enhanced with a Signature® 300 Colonial Red Kynar finish. Other metal accessories included large peak skylights for their energy efficiency.

The project’s team included Rob Nordby, general contractor; Cary and Associates, Sebastopal, California, builder; Rackley Construction, Orville, California, who served as the erector and roof contractor; Sean MacRae, Sebastopol, California, architect; and Metallic Building Company, building manufacturer.

Construction began in June 2007 and was completed in November 2007.
