Memphis, TN - For the second consecutive year, Varco Pruden Buildings (VP) was recognized as one of the healthiest companies to work for in the Mid-South by the Memphis Business Journal (MBJ). The company was selected as a winner in the ‘1-99 Employees’ category and was honored at an awards breakfast at the Hilton Memphis.
MBJ partnered with Healthiest Employers, a privately-held technology and data research company, focused on corporate wellness. Through proprietary technology, Healthiest Employers collects, measures and compares corporate wellness data worldwide. Mid-South companies were invited to participate in a survey that measured their workplace wellness efforts. Survey data and an online assessment tool measured wellness programs in six key categories: culture and leadership commitment; foundational components; strategic planning; communication and marketing; programming and interventions; and reporting and analysis.
Varco Pruden’s selection was based on the many active initiatives VP sponsors on both national and local levels. On a national level, VP provides in-office health screenings and annual flu shots for all employees. Also, each employee has access to online resources that help inform employees about important health issues. In addition, Varco Pruden encourages healthy lifestyle choices through a gym membership reimbursement program.
Additionally, in the Memphis facility, the company has a volunteer team that arranges contests and events for employees. Events held within the last year have encouraged weight loss; provided first-aid and CPR training; and assembled a team to participate in the St. Jude marathon. Varco Pruden’s employee wellness team hosts a lunch-n-learn every quarter, which focuses on the complete wellness of the employees – health, community involvement, financial and family.
The company is committed to help lower monthly insurance premiums for employees by providing an opportunity for those who participate in the wellness program to earn as much as $880 a year in premium reduction or medical spending funds. The company budgets for employee activities to help keep employees motivated and engaged.
“With the rising cost of health care, offering incentives for employees to stay healthier is a win-win proposition. Programs are evaluated each year to determine results and continuing interest of employees,” said Barbara Deloach, benefits administrator. “Varco Pruden is honored to share the award with several other Memphis-based organizations committed to creating a sustainably healthy workplace.”
