S-5!® Announces New Products At METALCON

Colorado Springs, CO - S-5!® has always been regarded as an industry innovator. And the company continues that tradition with its announcement at the 2014 METALCON show of a host of new products—18 in all when variations and options are considered.

The new S-5-V

One the company is particularly excited about is the new S-5-V metal roofing clamp. It was developed as an alternative to the company’s flagship S-5-U clamp and comes at a significantly lower cost. Keith Lipps, S-5’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, noted the new clamp is in no way intended to replace the S-5-U. Rather, the product offers customers greater choice.

“The V is intended to be an affordable solution for a specific application,” Lipps said, noting that the new clamp was designed primarily for use on metal roofing profiles featuring vertical-folded seams. The S-5-U works for those profiles too, in addition to also being suitable for horizontal seams. Manufacturing in that added versatility though does make the U a more expensive product.

“The V will be 20-40% cheaper than any product on the market,” Lipps asserts. “This will enable those who’ve avoided snow retention systems because of the cost to now have a solution.”

“Guys don’t buy just a couple of clamps at a time,” interjected Rob Haddock, S-5!’s President and CEO. “They buy them by the boxful. So a lower price really does make a difference to them when purchasing in bulk.

“Like the S-5-V, each of our new products solves a problem there was not previously a solution for,” he added.

Not surprisingly, the new clamping products can be used to satisfy a variety of attachment needs, whether it be anchoring snow retention systems, mounting solar panels or securing any of a number of ancillary rooftop items. S-5! was one of the first companies to develop an attachment system for crystalline solar panels and is banking on the popularity of mounting solar arrays on metal roofs to continue to be a strong market for its products, especially with the Solar Investment Tax Credit in effect through 2016.

“We expect the interest and activity in rooftop solar to remain robust for at least that period,” Lipps said.

As company officials note, the new S-5! products are all designed to do the same thing. They all facilitate the attachment of things to metal roofs. Yet they are all different in their design and features because not all metal roof systems are alike. Below are capsule descriptions of each new product. Some of the clamps are available in two sizes: regular and mini, which enables contractors and specifiers the flexibility to choose the clamp which best meets the situation.

S-5-V Clamp

The S-5-V clamp is a versatile clamp that fits most of the vertical-folded-seam profiles manufactured in North America, including both structural and architectural profiles. It is intended for use in attaching S-5!® snow retention products, such as ColorGard®, and is ideal for other heavy-duty applications.

The S-5-V Mini is a shorter version of the S-5-V and has one setscrew rather than two. The mini is the choice for attaching all kinds of rooftop accessories: signs, walkways, satellite dishes, antennas, rooftop lighting, lightning protection systems, solar arrays, exhaust stack bracing, conduit, condensate lines, mechanical equipment and more.

S-5-H Clamp

The S-5-H and S-5-H Mini clamp were specifically developed to securely accommodate metal roof panels with a horizontal seam. The S-5-H is unique because it allows for attachment to a horizontal seam on the vertical leg of the panel seam.

The clamp features a two-piece design that allows it to be installed anywhere along the length of the rib, making installation fast and easy. It attaches by placing the clamp on the seam, sliding the insert piece into place and then tightening the setscrews. The S-5-H is ideal for use with the S-5!® ColorGard® snow retention system and other heavy-duty applications.

The shorter S-5-H Mini, meanwhile, has one setscrew rather than two and is suitable for attaching rooftop accessories such as signs, walkways, satellite dishes, antennas, rooftop lighting, lightning protection systems, solar arrays, exhaust stack bracing, conduit, condensate lines, and mechanical equipment.

S-5-H90 Clamp

The S-5-H90 is a one-piece clamp that was developed for metal roof panels with a horizontal seam greater than 0.65”. The S-5-H90 is designed for use with S-5!® ColorGard® and X-Gard™ snow retention systems and other heavy-duty applications.

The S-5-H90 Mini is shorter than the S-5-H90 and has one setscrew and one threaded bolt hole rather than two. The mini is the choice for attaching all kinds of rooftop accessories: signs, walkways, satellite dishes, antennas, rooftop lighting, lightning protection systems, solar arrays, exhaust stack bracing, conduit, condensate lines, mechanical equipment.

CorruBracket™ 100T

S-5!® CorruBracket™ 100T facilitates the attachment of almost anything to the profiles of the corrugated roofing profiles commonly found in North America, including PV via DirectAttached™ or rail methods.

CorruBracket 100T is affixed to the crest of the corrugation, leaving the drainage plane free of holes to protect against leaks. The bracket can be attached directly to the sheeting, accommodating ancillary attachment anywhere along the corrugation. For heavy‐duty applications, the bracket can be fixed into the underlying substrate for additional support without crushing the corrugation. CorruBracket 100T comes with a factory‐applied EPDM rubber gasket seal already on the base, located within a patented reservoir that shields the gasket from UV exposure.

The CorruBracket 100T Mini is a shorter version of the standard unit and is the choice for attaching most kinds of rooftop accessories.

RibBracket™

S-5!® RibBracket™ makes possible the attachment of anything to select exposed-fastened, trapezoidal roof profiles, including PV through DirectAttached™ or rail methods.

RibBracket™ installs without sealants, preventing leaks instead with a factory-applied EPDM rubber gasket seal under the base, concealed within a patented reservoir that eliminates UV exposure, preventing drying and cracking. The RibBracket is mounted directly onto the crown of the panel, straddling the profile. No surface preparation is necessary, beyond wiping away excess oil and debris. RibBracket is a perfect match for the S-5-PV Kit, or any other ancillary application, and eliminates the worry about cold bridging. RibBracket is engineered for economy and quick installation. The slotted top hole, which accommodates standard M8 nuts and bolts, simplifies alignment and maximizes flexibility in attaching ancillaries.

ColorGard®  (including SnoClip™ and SnapClip™)

ColorGard® is a clamp-on snow retention system designed and engineered on a site-specific basis. It is guaranteed to last, to not damage the roof finish, and to match the roof color—for the entire life of the roof.

Now offered as an accessory for use with the ColorGard system are SnoClip™ (for new construction) and SnapClip™ (for retrofit projects) aluminum add-ons that help slow the migration of snow and ice beneath the ColorGard crossmember. Each features a special integrated rubber “foot” to prevent abrasion of the panel’s finish. Both are attached to the back of the crossmember, extending down to rest flat on the roofing panel. The ColorGard system is a snow retention solution for almost any roof profile.

VersaGard™

VersaGard™ is a thru-fastened mounting bracket for pipe-style snow guards or photovoltaic panels. It comes with a factory‐applied butyl sealant in the base, concealed within a patented reservoir that protects the sealant from UV exposure, preventing drying and cracking.

VersaGard works with most rail or racking systems, and can be oriented parallel or perpendicular to the roof line. It can also be used in lieu of an L-foot to support the installation of photovoltaic panels.

X-Gard™  (including X-Clip™)

X-Gard™ is the newest snow retention solution from S-5!® and can be designed as a one- or two-pipe system spanning up to 48”. X-Gard’s innovative double-clamp design allows it to provide the strongest-possible holding strength when attached with S-5!®’s standard or mini-sized clamps. X-Gard is mechanically attached with patented round-point setscrews, gripping seams securely without penetration and without damage to the panel’s protective finishes. The employment of two clamps with each bracket and the unique shape of the NEX® 2.0 pipe enables a properly installed X-Gard system to provide a reliable snow retention solution in a wide variety of situations.

The X-Clip™ is an aluminum component that slows the migration of snow and ice beneath the X-Gard NEX® 2.0 Pipe and its integrated rubber “foot” prevents abrasion of the panel’s finish. X-Clip snaps in place and is screwed onto the back of the pipe, extending down to the flat of the roofing panel. This snow retention system can be easily retrofitted to existing roofs or incorporated into new construction. It can be installed any time during the year on almost any metal roof profile.
