PPG To Debut Metal Coatings Color Selector Tool At AIA Convention 2015

e-Binder App Also To Be Featured, And Key Duranar Coatings Ingredient - Kynar 500 Resin - To Celebrate 50 years

PPG-Color-Selector-ToolPittsburgh, PA - PPG Industries’ (NYSE: PPG) coil and building products coatings group will introduce the PPG Metal Coatings Online Color Selector Tool at AIA Convention 2015, the annual gathering of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), in Atlanta, May 14-16. The recently-unveiled digital Architectural Metal Coatings Binder app will also be featured.

The color selector tool features digital versions of all 90 colors in the PPG Architectural Liquid and Powder Coatings Color Guide and each of the 80 colors in the PPG Building Products Coil Coatings Color Guide. Visitors can access large swatches of all 170 extrusion and coil coatings colors - which include the ability to click to full-screen views - and filter searches by color family or brand name such as Duranar®, Duranar ULTRA-Cool®, Durastar® and Coraflon® coatings.

Hovering a cursor over a color swatch reveals the descriptive name of the Duranar liquid coating in the extrusion-coatings mode or the Duranar ULTRA-Cool coating in the coil-coatings mode, along with its unique product code and solar reflectance index (SRI) rating.

Clicking on a swatch expands the sample and unveils product codes for the same color in other PPG brands and resin formulations, as well as suggested uses for the coating. Another quick tap on the expand icon in the corner of the swatch enlarges it to full-screen size.

In the extrusion-coatings mode, a click on the “Request a Sample” icon takes visitors to the Sample and Literature Fulfillment Center on the ppgideascapes.com site, where they can add the panel to the shopping cart.

Icons for email and social media embedded in each swatch enable architects to share colors instantly with clients and colleagues. Clicking on the name of an individual brand generates information about its basic resin technology, coating system and gloss range.

Sharon Bird, PPG marketing communications manager, industrial coatings, said the new color selector tool is designed to simplify and accelerate the color specification process. “With a few quick clicks, architects and designers can find everything they need to learn about or compare specific metal coatings, from their solar-reflectance ratings to their resin formulations and suitability for particular applications,” she explained. “Our online sample-ordering system also is incredibly simple, which makes it faster and easier for architects to show clients and prospects the colors they are considering for any building project.”

Other Highlights

The free Architectural Metal Coatings Binder application, available from the Apple® App StoreSM online store, enables access to fully updated catalogs, product brochures and data sheets for the entire roster of PPG liquid and powder coil and extrusion coatings. It includes color guides and technical documents for PPG metal coatings, along with white papers, case studies and sourcing information for members of the PPG CAP Certified Applicator Program® group and for PPG-approved extrusion applicators and coil coaters.

Another in-booth highlight will be a mini-house constructed by PPG to demonstrate how products such as Duranar, Duranar ULTRA-Cool and Duranar VARI-Cool® coatings are used to protect and beautify metal building products. The display will showcase PPG glass and paint products as well.

PPG also celebrates a half-century of partnership with Arkema, as the only original and continuous licensee of the highly recognized, oft-recommended and universally trusted Kynar 500® polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) resin made by Arkema. Today, Kynar 500 FSF® resins are a key component in every Duranar fluoropolymer coating.
