Wood's Powr-Grip® Introduces New Vacuum Lifter For Curtainwall Components

woods-powr-grip-mrta8Laurel, MT - Wood's Powr-Grip® (WPG), a leading manufacturer/supplier of vacuum lifting equipment, has introduced the MRTA8-DC2 vacuum lifter. Based on the design of WPG’s™ popular MRTA6-DC2, the MRTA8-DC2 offers a much higher load capacity for use on construction jobsites and within production and warehousing facilities.

"In this day and age of larger glass lites and heavier curtainwall components, lifter capacity has become a critical factor in selecting a vacuum lifter suitable for the job," explained David Peters, marketing associate for Wood's Powr-Grip. "While the MRTA6-DC2 has served well with its 1,100 lbs. [500 kg] capacity, several strategic improvements promise to make its replacement a more robust and capable lifter.

"The new MRTA8-DC2 is equipped with a redesigned lift bar for greater structural capacity. The two additional pads of the MRTA8-DC2 give the lifter a higher load capacity, an increase from the 1,100 lbs. [500 kg] of the MRTA6-DC2 to 1,400 lbs. [635 kg]. A rotation pin with a 6-bolt pattern head and a larger shaft has been added to increase strength and to accommodate the higher load capacity. Quick connects for all 8 vacuum pads come standard, to facilitate rapid reconfiguration of the pads on the frame while on the job site."

Peters continued, "The MRTA8-DC2 features WPG’s Quadra-Tilt™, four-bar tilt mechanism, to significantly reduce the effort of tilting heavy loads between flat and upright positions. In addition, a Dual Vacuum System (DVS) employs two completely independent vacuum circuits, allowing the lifter to maintain the vacuum level for one circuit, even if an unexpected vacuum loss occurs in the other. The DVS is designed to reduce the risk of falling loads, which could occur as a result of material breakage or accidents that compromise one area of the vacuum system. In addition, the DVS features audible and visible alarms that warn the operator whenever the vacuum level is not sufficient for lifting the maximum load weight. Originally designed to comply with European Standard EN 13155, this Dual Vacuum System provides additional safety in any setting."

Other standard features of the MRTA8-DC2 include:

• Blow-off for quick release

• On-board battery and charger

• Battery energy gauge

• Low vacuum warning buzzer

• Power loss warning buzzer

• Green lift light

• Vacuum gauges

• Vacuum line filters

• Vacuum reserve tanks

• Spring-mounted vacuum pads

• (Re)movable pad mounts

• Pad extension arms

• Tilt locks

The MRTA8-DC2 comes remote-ready for quick and easy installation of WPG’s remote control system, whether as a factory option or in-the-field retrofit. This lifter is also available with a number of different pad sizes for specific lifting needs.
