Allentown, PA - The “Monsters of Metal” team, with members from ATAS International Inc. and the Architectural Studio, participated in the local Canstruction® competition recently held at the Lehigh Valley Mall. They earned the “Best Use of Labels” award, utilizing a variety of canned vegetables, along with bags of white rice and black beans, to create their cansculpture®.
For this year’s event, structures were built with a “Lehigh Valley Heritage” theme. Eight teams competed using 38,000 cans of food (approximately 32,000 pounds). The “Monsters of Metal” built a 1969 vintage race car cansculpture® paying tribute to Nazareth Speedway and the drivers who raced on that local track. All the food was donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank in the Lehigh Valley at the end of the competition.
Canstruction® is a unique charity which hosts competitions, exhibitions and events showcasing colossal structures made out of full cans of food. After they are built, the cansculptures® go on display to the public as a giant art exhibition. At the end of the event, all food is donated to local hunger relief organizations. Canstruction® has helped raise nearly 30 million pounds of food since 1992 with events held annually in over 150 cities around the world including North America, Australia, South America, Europe and Asia.
