PPG Showcasing Real-World Applications Of Metal Coatings At A'18

Coatings Have Made Colorful Contribution To New York’s Changing Skyline

Pittsburgh, PA - PPG (NYSE: PPG) announces that it will highlight its full line of liquid and powder metal coatings at A’18, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Conference on Architecture 2018 in New York City, June 21-23.

Visitors to the PPG booth will find information about PPG’s flagship line of PPG Duranar® polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) coatings, headlined by PPG Duranar MXL coatings. Formulated to meet architect and designer demand for more brilliant coatings, PPG Duranar MXL coatings are blended to incorporate mica flake into the clear topcoat of a three-layer finish system, which results in an explosion of color when the coating is exposed to direct daylight.

Other PPG Duranar coatings on display will include:

• PPG Duranar Ultra-Cool® coatings;

• Color-shifting PPG Duranar Vari-Cool® coatings;

• Graffiti-resistant PPG Duranar GR coatings; and

• PPG Duranar powder coatings with ultra-low volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

PPG also will exhibit high-performance coatings based on its proprietary fluoroethylene vinyl ether (FEVE) fluoropolymer resins. These include PPG Coraflon® and mica-inflected PPG Coraflon Sunstorm® powder coatings for curtain walls, storefronts and other monumental applications.

Additionally, the company will showcase several recent high-profile New York City projects that feature PPG coatings, including VIA 57 West, 55 Hudson Yards, the Emma and Georgina Bloomberg Center and the Passive House at Cornell Technology Center. Each project was designed by a prominent architect or incorporates notable sustainability features made possible by PPG coatings.

Another major project on display will be the Nassau County Coliseum on Long Island. This award-winning renovation features PPG Durabrite® coatings applied directly to 4,700 individually folded and routed brushed metal fins attached to the old building façade. In addition to emphasizing the natural shine of the aluminum fins, the PPG Durabrite coatings provide a robust fluoropolymer layer that protects the fins against oxidation and premature weathering.
