Chicago, IL - The Metal Construction Association (MCA) has posted a series of six videos covering Best Practices for Installing Insulated Metal Panels (IMPs) at www.metalconstruction.org/Best-Practices-for-installing-IMPs. This video series is a result of MCA's IMP Funders Group presentation at the 2017 METALCON event in Las Vegas. The various aspects of installing IMPs are covered by leading experts in the field, with animated demonstrations that make installation crystal-clear.

Insulated Metal Panels (IMPs) are lightweight composite exterior wall and roof panels with two layers of coated thin sheet metal, typically steel or aluminum, wrapped around a rigid foam core to form a stiff composite. IMPs are manufactured to meet the performance and testing requirements of the building codes and insurance listing agencies. They are tested for fire, structural, thermal transmittance/resistance, foam core properties, water leakage and air pressure differential.

After a brief introduction by Jeff Irwin, executive director of the MCA's Insulated Metal Panel Founders Group, Lisa Fischer from Kingspan Insulated Metal Panels begins the series by explaining the basic types of IMPs, their respective features, and architectural uses, including roof options.

Next, Arnold Corbin of Metl-Span provides in-depth coverage of unloading and storing IMPs at construction sites—essential information to save time and money, and, most importantly, to ensure the safety of crew members. Corbin goes on to discuss lifting, cutting, special tools, and framing alignment and tolerances. He then addresses how to install vertical and horizontal IMPs, and concludes by explaining proper installation of roofing IMPs, including the four seam types.

"Whether you are new to the industry or a veteran IMP installer, sharpening your knowledge in IMP installation best practices will lead to advantages in everything from material selection, installation and the bottom line," says Irwin. "These videos are packed with helpful information."
