MBMA Releases Recreation & Fitness Case Study Report

Cleveland, OH - The Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) has released a new case study report, Recreation & Fitness, which features sports and recreation centers that use metal buildings systems.

“Sports and recreation facilities are important to many different parts of our society,” noted Tony Bouquot, MBMA’s general manager. “Decision-makers in communities, schools, religious organizations and companies can provide great-looking, energy-efficient and cost-effective facilities by using metal building systems.”

Sports and recreation centers are constructed for an array of uses, including school practice facilities and gymnasiums, swimming pools, municipal fitness centers, ice hockey arenas, bowling alleys, yoga studios and special-use recreational businesses. This case study provides a look at four organizations that use metal building systems for their recreational uses and how these buildings provide ideal solutions for those needs.

One example is Evans Fitness Center in Evans, Georgia, a 50,000-square-foot facility that houses racquetball courts, a climbing wall, an indoor running track and much more. The speed of construction and the construction cost savings that come with a metal building system, along with the ability to fit everything under one roof, made the owners very happy with the resulting building.

Also, the ability to custom-engineer and produce each piece of the structure makes metal building systems appropriate choices for indoor sky-diving centers, including Paraclete XP SkyVenture in Raeford, North Carolina. With the Bentonville Community Center in Arkansas, exterior options such as brick and stone as well as metal panels serve to make the building unique and attractive. This center houses a host of community recreation spaces including indoor swimming pools and a fitness center. Another metal building project featured in the case study is the Myrtle Beach Sports Center in South Carolina, a 100,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art indoor sports center with eight basketball courts and seating for up to 2,000 spectators.
