MBMA Plans 2022 Architectural Faculty Workshop In Nashville, August 2-3
Cleveland, OH - The Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) is gearing up to host its third annual Architecture Faculty Workshop for college and university professors nationwide. The two-day event will take place August 2-3, 2022, in Nashville,
Tennessee.
Registration for the program is now open at http://ow.ly/ooKz30sl6HL. MBMA will cover all expenses for architecture educators who attend, including travel costs, lodging and
meals.
“The MBMA Architecture Faculty Workshop was a value to me. I learned new information related to design opportunities with metal buildings,” said Kristina Yu, associate professor at the School of Architecture + Planning, University of New Mexico.
The workshop will present engaging ideas for integrating metal building studies into college and university curriculum. Presenters will also discuss the 2022 student design competition, which kicks off this fall and will award a total $28,000 to students
and faculty sponsors. Professor Yu, whose teams won the top prizes in the 2021 MBMA student design competition, will draw from her personal experience to share helpful tips on being a faculty advisor for the design contest during the workshop.
The objective of this year’s competition is for undergraduate and graduate students to submit a design for a new municipal fire station headquarters utilizing a metal building system. Featured speaker Eric Pros, AIA, the director of design at DS
Architecture, will share insights about fire station design concepts to help attendees understand about this specific type of building design. Passionate about architectural excellence, Pros also serves as president of the Akron Chapter of the American
Institute of Architects (AIA) and has previously judged Firehouse Magazine’s Station Design Awards.
Other Architecture Faculty Workshop presentations and speakers include:
• “Introduction to Metal Buildings” by W. Lee Shoemaker, Ph.D., PE, director of research and engineering, MBMA
• “Market Trends in Metal Buildings” by Tony Bouquot, general manager, MBMA
• “Metal Building Designs—In and Out of the Classroom” by Donna Kacmar, FAIA, professor, Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design, University of Houston.
• “Introducing Metal Building Concepts into Architecture Curriculum” by Greg Snyder, associate professor of architecture and undergraduate program director, School of Architecture, University of North Carolina-Charlotte
This year’s workshop also includes a tour of a metal building manufacturing plant to showcase the technology, processes and precision used to create modern metal buildings. In addition, workshop attendees will receive free educational publications
and access to resources on metal buildings.
“We look forward to hosting academic leaders from across the nation and we’re excited to be meeting in-person at the historic 21c Museum Hotel in Nashville,” commented Bouquot. He said that typical attendees include undergraduate and
graduate college and university professors, graduate program advisers, deans of architecture schools, and practicing architecture professionals who serve as adjunct professors.
