2022 MBMA Student Design Competition Accepting Entries

Cleveland, OH - The Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) 2022 Student Design Competition opens to individuals and teams that wish to register on July 15, 2022. Offering more than $28,000 in prizes across two divisions - graduate and undergraduate - this year’s contest challenges architecture students to create an innovative metal building design for a new municipal fire station.

Individual students or teams can register at www.mbmaeducation.org with submissions due by January 6, 2023.

Registration is free to full-time graduate and undergraduate students, but all entrants are required to have a faculty sponsor. “Our inaugural contest last year was a great success, with 64 incredible designs submitted for an elementary school concept,” said W. Lee Shoemaker, Ph.D., PE, MBMA director of research and engineering and contest organizer. “We hope to encourage even more students to learn about metal buildings this year. Metal provides an endless array of possibilities, and we look forward to seeing what this year’s entrants come up with.”

A total of six prizes will be given—one overall winner, two graduate awards and three undergraduate awards. These prizes will be divided between the students and faculty sponsors. Teams may also enter, and prizes will be divided and distributed equally to each member of a registered team. Contest winners will be announced on Feb. 28, 2023.

Further details about design parameters, judging criteria and submission requirements are available at www.mbmaeducation.org. Also, questions can be addressed to Lee Shoemaker at mbma@mbma.com.
