Metal Roofed Florida Home Recognized As Best Residential Metal Roofing Project By MRA

Portland, OR — Like prize fighters, the Q4 2024 winner of the Metal Roofing Alliance’s (MRA)
Best Residential Roofing Project competition shines the spotlight on a
lightweight contender that is proving to punch far beyond its weight
class, beating out an industry heavyweight.
The beautiful 6,000 square foot home is located on Dona Bay
in Nokomis, Florida. The homeowners were searching for a long-term,
durable roofing solution that could survive the direct blows the home
had sustained during Hurricane Ian in 2022. The old heavy concrete tile
roof had suffered major damage, so the homeowners decided to replace it
with a quality metal roof in a stunning slate style from EDCO Products, installed by Metal Roofing Headquarters (also known as MRHQ Roofs). The new metal roof offers numerous benefits—beautiful
curb appeal, superior wind resistance, strong and long-lasting
performance with minimal long term maintenance requirements.
“It’s
a literal fortress for your home,” said Jonathan Boyer, co-owner and
director of operations for Metal Roofing Headquarters.
Metal
also is much lighter weight, an advantage that came into the spotlight
when removing the old concrete tile roof. Given the incredible weight of
the old material, Metal Roofing Headquarters had to use extreme caution
to not damage the home’s pool, landscape and driveway during removal,
setting up a specialized chute system to fill dump trucks that made
continual trips to the concrete recycling facility, adding hassle,
expense and time to the removal process.
But
could metal really outperform such a heavyweight when it came to severe
storms? The proof is in performance. The previous tile roof was badly
damaged by Category 3 Hurricane Ian in 2022. Afterward, the roof was
replaced with metal and in 2024, the home took a direct hit from
Category 3 Hurricane Milton. The new metal roof suffered zero damage.
“Premium
metal roofs come with a long list of obvious benefits, like beauty,
strength, longevity, return on investment, and environmental
friendliness. At the end of the day, the peace of mind you get from
knowing your home and family will be protected for 50 plus years is
probably the biggest benefit of all,” Stefan Boyer, co-owner and
director of marketing for Metal Roofing Headquarters.
From
the homeowner’s perspective, they love their new metal roof. Even
though concrete tile has traditionally been considered a high-end
roofing material, they view their new metal shingle roof as an upgrade.
