Clopay Unveils AlarmGard® Streamlined Motor Housing for Counter Fire Doors
Mason, Ohio – Clopay Corporation, a leader in closure products for commercial, residential, industrial, institutional, and retail applications, introduces a compact solution for its Counter Fire Doors: the AlarmGard® Conceal Motor Operator.
Offered under the Clopay®, Cornell®, and Cookson® brands, the new space-saving motor operator delivers dependable alarm-triggered closure during a fire event while streamlining aesthetics. By enclosing the motor and controller within the
door hood, AlarmGard Conceal reduces headroom requirements for the coil and operator by 11 inches, representing a 34% reduction in space compared to standard operators.

In addition to minimizing hood size, the AlarmGard Conceal Motor Operator can be installed flush with the ceiling, concealing the motor and operator and delivering a clean, soffit-like appearance. For counter fire doors 10 feet and wider, AlarmGard Conceal
also increases the bracket height and aligns the brackets with the stoppers for a seamless look.
AlarmGard Conceal is the latest addition to Clopay Corporation’s fire-rated counter doors, expanding its powerhouse of fire and smoke protection products with design-conscious engineering.
Features & Functionality
The AlarmGard Conceal Motor Operator is UL 325 listed and features a standard onboard battery backup that prevents unintended drops during temporary power failures for up to one hour. Providing 24VDC failsafe performance without fusible links, the operator
ensures quick, reliable
deployment in alarm mode. Using electrical fire alarm signal connection points, the motor operator is directly notified by the fire alarm control panel or the local detector during a fire event or upon extended loss of power. The motor then closes the
door at a controlled speed, and the brake engages once the door is in the closed position. When the alarm clears or power is restored, the door automatically opens and resets to its programmed position, eliminating the time-consuming task of manually
resetting the door after an event.
AlarmGard Conceal’s compact size and chain-driven sprocket allow for out-of-shaft, front-of-pipe mounting, simplifying installation and maintenance. Located under the hood and outside the barrel, the motor operator is easily accessible through a
convenient maintenance panel without removing the barrel, and all connections are plug-and-play.
An Attractive Addition to Counter Fire Doors The AlarmGard Conceal Motor Operator is the latest solution available in the counter fire door family of products. Counter fire doors are available in counter-height and full-height openings and offer UL fire
ratings up to three hours. Their formidable structural integrity, afforded by a steel curtain and galvanized steel hood, is complemented by advanced fire protection features. These doors, available in a variety of attractive styles, set new standards
for security and design. SmokeShield® package, for example, is Clopay Corporation’s innovative smoke gasketing system integrated into the door guides that meets UL 1784 standards for mitigating smoke migration.
In addition to the AlarmGard Conceal Motor Operator, other design-focused features and options available with counter fire doors include: standard end caps that hide the end assemblies, color matched bottom bars that tuck flush into the headbox when opened,
and SpectraShield® powder coat finishes in over 180 standard RAL colors. Counter fire doors are available in widths up to 16 feet and heights up to 10 feet. Please note that for units exceeding 12 feet in width, the maximum height is limited to
7 feet 6 inches. Like AlarmGard Conceal, they are offered under the Clopay, Cornell, and Cookson brands.
