DeLand, FL – Kingspan Insulated Panels North America, a leader in high-performance building materials, has announced the launch of K-Roc® FX, a new fire-rated insulated metal panel (IMP) system featuring a mineral wool insulation core.

Fire resistance remains a critical consideration in commercial and industrial construction when it comes to not only occupant and egress safety, but also the protection of high-value internal assets and equipment. Against this backdrop, architects and contractors continue to need building envelope solutions that can meet demanding fire-performance requirements.

Designed for projects with demanding fire performance requirements, K-Roc FX provides fire ratings of up to three hours in wall applications and up to two hours in ceiling applications, depending on panel thickness and installation requirements.

K-Roc FX also introduces an installation improvement designed to reduce field work. Factory-applied Promat intumescent tape in the panel joint replaces the need to field-apply beads of Safire Intumescent Mastic, a flexible, water-based acrylic sealant. Replacing this with the factory-applied intumescent tape helps simplify installation, improve efficiency, and reduce labor requirements on the job site.

“Fire-rated IMPs are critical for many commercial and industrial projects, but contractors also need building envelope solutions that help them work efficiently in the field,” said Karim Muri, Vice President of Marketing Services and Strategy Development at Kingspan Insulated Panels North America. “K-Roc FX brings those priorities together. Its mineral wool core provides the fire resistance required for demanding applications, while the factory-applied intumescent tape helps reduce installation steps and field labor.”

Tested to ASTM E119 and ULC-S101 fire-rating standards, K-Roc FX is available in 4-, 6-, and 8-inch thicknesses. Wall applications can achieve a 1-hour fire rating with 4-inch panels, a 2-hour rating with 6-inch panels, and a 3-hour rating with 8-inch panels. For ceiling applications, the system can achieve up to 2 hours of rating with 8-inch panels. Specific installation requirements vary by assembly.

In addition to its fire performance, K-Roc FX provides an R-value of 3.7 per inch per ASTM C518 at a 75-degree Fahrenheit mean temperature. The system has a 42-inch cover width and can be installed vertically or horizontally.

As commercial building design increasingly emphasizes both performance and visual appeal, architects are seeking building envelope systems that meet technical requirements without limiting design flexibility.

K-Roc FX is available in five exterior profile options, including Azteco™, Flat, Micro-Rib, Mini Micro-Rib, and Shadowline, giving architects and designers flexibility to meet a range of aesthetic requirements. Exterior surfaces are available in stucco or non-embossed finishes, with the Azteco profile offered with Azteco embossing.

The new system has also been tested for air and water performance. ASTM E283 testing showed air leakage of 0.01 CFM per square foot of panel area at 6.24 psf, while ASTM E331 testing showed no uncontrolled water penetration at a 10 psf differential pressure.
