BŌK Modern Appoints New Principal & General Manager and Creative Design Lead

San Rafael, CA – BŌK Modern has announced the appointment of Jonathan Bodway as Principal & General Manager and Steve Duncan as Creative Design Lead. Bringing complementary expertise in architecture, lighting, design, and design-build, Bodway
and Duncan strengthen BŌK’s leadership team and expand the firm’s ability to support architects, designers, and project teams from concept through fabrication and installation.
Jonathan Bodway, Principal & General Manager
Jonathan Bodway brings a background that spans architecture, construction management, and design-build, giving him a broad understanding of the full process from early design decisions through construction and delivery. Before joining BŌK as a licensed
architect and contractor, he founded and led his own design-build firm for 18 years, and held executive roles in field operations and construction project management. This breadth of experience taught Bodway to appreciate both the architect’s
vision and the practical realities of project delivery.
At BŌK Modern, Bodway oversees the firm’s operations while helping strengthen its role as a collaborative design-assist partner. His experience across design and construction informs an approach centered on early coordination, practical problem-solving,
and solutions that balance design intent, performance, and durability.
Sustainability is also central to Bodway’s approach. By engaging with project teams early, he looks for opportunities to make informed material and fabrication decisions that can improve a project’s long-term performance and reduce unnecessary
complexity. His approach reflects BŌK’s commitment to creating durable architectural solutions built to last.
“My experience has always been rooted in understanding how design translates into construction,” says Jonathan Bodway. “What drew me to BŌK Modern is the opportunity to bring that perspective into the design process earlier, working
alongside architects, designers, and builders to develop solutions that are both ambitious and achievable. I’m excited to build on BŌK’s reputation as a trusted design-assist partner.”
Steve Duncan, Creative Design Lead
Steve Duncan joins BŌK Modern with more than 15 years of experience spanning architecture, lighting design, and interdisciplinary project leadership. A California-licensed architect, he has worked across a range of project types, with a particular focus
on how material, light, and architectural systems blend art and technical execution to create the experience of a space. Duncan’s work has been recognized by the American Institute of Architects and the design community, including a 2023 AIA
Seattle Honor Award.
At BŌK, Duncan brings this design perspective directly into the firm’s architectural metalwork. As Creative Design Lead, Duncan works with architects, designers, and BŌK’s internal teams to explore metal's creative potential as an architectural
material, helping develop solutions that serve the design intent behind each project. Steve acts as a co- creator alongside project teams to create custom installations rooted in solving problems in a simple, elegant way.
"BŌK Modern has always been driven by a belief that great design happens through collaboration,” says Steve Duncan. “I'm excited to continue building relationships with architects, developers, and builders while advancing products and solutions
that help bring ambitious ideas to life."
Steve Duncan and Jonathan Bodway bring a new era of leadership to BŌK Modern, reinforcing the company’s commitment to thoughtful design, technical expertise, and close collaboration throughout the building process.
