The Ulteig Multi-Purpose Hangar project in Thief River Falls, MN features a 110' x 180' heated pre-engineered hangar, including an 80' x 25' large sliding door, a 24' x 12' overhead door and four loading docks. Products from American Buildings Company were used to create the facility.
The hangar also includes a 30' x 50' area for mechanical equipment, storage, restrooms and offices, along with a 30' x 60' snow removal equipment storage area with a 24' x 16' overhead door. The snow removal equipment consists of a John Deere 744J 4wd wheel loader and MB 618LDR 300 HP Broom. This equipment is critical to the airport operation and the ability of daily flights to meet their deadlines.
The hangar provides an all-weather storage, maintenance and loading area for UPS, FedEx, and/or other freight and transient aircraft. Currently, UPS contracts with a subcontractor, IFL, to air ship packages using Dassault Falcon 20 aircraft. The loading and maintenance of the Dassault Falcon 20 aircraft had been performed on the existing apron without protection from the weather. This new hangar allows loading and maintenance of the Dassault Falcon 20 aircraft in a controlled environment. The controlled environment increases safety and loading efficiency, reduces damage and eliminates cold-weather aircraft maintenance problems. Inside storage also significantly reduces glycol use for deicing.
