A major addition to Brown Hall on the campus of the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO, turned an inward-focused building into one that celebrates science and makes it visible to the public. Glass was naturally a major component for the 100,000 sq. ft. addition, but so was RHEINZINK titanium zinc from RHEINZINK America Inc. of Woburn, MA. Approximately 13,000 sq. ft. of the manufacturer's RHEINZINK prePATINA blue-grey material was used on the building. It was distributed by Firestone Metal Products of Anoka, MN and formed into Double Lock Standing Seam panels by the installer, Superior Roofing of Aurora, CO.

The Brown Hall project was completed in 2011 and was certified LEED Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). A highlight of the addition is a glass wall on one side of a pedestrian promenade, which allows passers-by to see the work being done in the laboratory classrooms. The building also includes shops for building physical prototypes, computer labs for testing digital models and conversation nooks for encouraging student discourse. It was designed by Anderson Mason Dale of Denver, CO.
