Conco Construction completed construction on the $3.3 million indoor sports facility for Cowley County Community College, located in Arkansas City, KS, in November 2011 using metal building systems from American Buildings Company.

The Travis Hafner Training Center is named after the current Cleveland Indians major league baseball player. Hafner, a 1997 graduate of Cowley College, is acknowledged for providing the largest ever donation to the college which helped pave the way for what is one of the top indoor practice facilities among all junior colleges.

The 33,000 sq. ft. pre-engineered metal building from American Buildings Company is constructed of three adjoining clear span metal building structures that all vary in width and eave height. During the outset of construction, two 65 ton cranes were utilized to set all the main frames in less than three days.

Both the interior walls and exterior walls feature burnished block for appearance and long term durability. The exterior of the building is accented by a powder coated orange band that incorporates the school’s color. The structure contains a large 140’ x 140’ clear span multi-purpose training area that will be utilized for netting around both the walls and the ceiling. One bay of the building features two retractable indoor batting cages that are suspended from the metal building structure.

The facility also contains multiple coaches’ offices, training rooms, a weight lifting room that doubles as a safe room and three separate locker rooms. The facility will be utilized by all 15 of Crowley’s athletic teams. The College has found that the facility is a competitive tool when recruiting top student athletes to its sports program.
