The Gillmor Center - a 100,000 square foot, three-story interdisciplinary classroom facility - represents the first phase of the existing Main Building replacement at the Mission College campus in Santa Clara, CA. It features insulated metal panels and metal sunshades from CENTRIA.

The facility, registered with the certification goal of LEED® Gold, includes career technical education classrooms, faculty offices, 2D art classrooms for painting and drawing, 3D art classrooms for figurines and sculpture, woodshop, metal shop, jewelry, ceramics, print shop, adaptable classrooms, meeting spaces, lab and lecture space, computer labs, as well as numerous student gathering and study spaces.

The Gillmor Center continues the implementation of the facilities and educational master plan, incorporating sustainable design principles together with state-of-the art technologies to create high performance learning environments. The site and landscaping design provides a variety of exterior learning and socialization spaces, further encouraging interaction between staff and students.

Mission College was concerned with lessening its eco-footprint and wanted a building that was energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. Formawall Dimension Series panels reflect CENTRIA’s commitment to sustainability and helped further the architects’ environmentally friendly goals. The building’s architects specified CENTRIA products because they not only add to the building’s sustainability, but are also durable and offer unique aesthetic options.

Formawall Dimension Series' insulated metal panel includes a factory foamed-in-place core, minimizing insulation gaps, along with a thermal break between the face and the liner. The panels offer superior weather resistance by utilizing pressure equalization along the length of the horizontal joinery. Available in horizontal and vertical designs, Formawall Dimension Series insulated metal wall system offers a wide range of lengths, thicknesses, reveals and profiles, along with integrated wall components like windows, louvers and sunshades, for an integrated, high performance system.

CENTRIA’s Formawall Dimension Series panels make up a wall system that provides advanced thermal and moisture protection (ATMP®) in a single panelized component. The Formawall Dimension Series system can be installed as a single panel, which makes installation simple and increases efficiency in construction, adding to the overall value of the project. These panels were chosen because they provide an uninterrupted appearance—thanks to concealed clips and fasteners—and unlimited possibilities in terms of form, color and texture, helping the architects meet their goal of a simple, clean design.

The architect was Lionakis of San Francisco, CA. The CENTRIA products dealer/installer was Pacific Erectors, Inc. of Rocklin, CA. The contractor was Roebbelen Contracting, Inc. of El Dorado Hills, CA. The Gillmor Center was completed in April 2014.

CENTRIA products used on this project included:

• Formawall® Dimension Series® 2” Horizontal - Square Feet: 34,605; Color: Platinum; Finish: Smooth; Coating: Sundance Mica; Gauge 22

• C/S Sunshades
