When it comes to a façade makeover, metal makes a difference. York Technical College, a member of the South Carolina Technical and Comprehensive Education, is a public, two-year educational institution that offers a variety of associates degrees, diplomas and certificates. The college’s mantra has always been to give students a quality education so that they may more aptly contribute to society and improve the world.
The York Technical College’s C-Building was constructed as part of The York Technical College Foundation’s “Real. Bold. Better. Campaign”, which was conceptualized to raise money to support the College’s philanthropic mission of providing quality education to better the community. Previously standing as the oldest building on the York Tech campus in Rock Hill, the C-Building was renovated at a cost of roughly $3 million and represents the first great step toward the remaining 120-acre campus’s renovations. Including four classrooms, a technology convergence lab and a new entry way, the building is used primarily for programming and manufacturing classes.
As the oldest building on the campus, Watson Tate Savory Architecture knew that the building’s aesthetics had to undergo drastic changes. In order to provide the façade with a dynamic look without breaking the bank, the architect specified CENTRIA’s Intercept Entyre modular metal panel system to equip the building with smooth expanses and sharp angles for varied and unique sightlines.
In contrast to the architectural climate of when the building was originally built, modern designs are expected to adhere to various sustainability practices. On top of the building’s aesthetic features, the Intercept Entyre modular metal panels provide performance features including superior thermal efficiency and moisture control. In addition, the panels are comprised of 100% recyclable, non-combustible material. The metal panels are also lightweight and easily-installed, allowing contractors to wrap up construction quickly while saving money on transportation costs.
CENTRIA’s Fluorofinish metal coating provides additional longevity, and the Sundance AM finish additionally adorns the panels with a reflective sheen that amplifies color by reflecting light, all while protecting against color fade and weathering.
The architect was Watson Tate Savory of Columbia, SC; the CENTRIA products dealer/installer was Peachtree Protective Covers of Hiram, GA; and the general contractor was Solid Structures LLC of West Columbia, SC. The project was completed in November 2015.
