In an effort to strengthen urban Chicago neighborhoods, the Access Community Health Network opened the Access Center For Discovery And Learning as part of a health-focused campus that includes a community health center along with other integrated support services. The facility features architectural metal products by CENTRIA.

The outpatient research clinic serves Englewood and other nearby neighborhoods by bringing local residents and guest researchers together to help provide direct access to research initiatives that have a direct impact on them. The Center for Discovery and Learning features exam and consultation rooms, a divisible symposium hall with adjoining observation rooms for testing and research, office spaces, meeting rooms and more. A blend of colors, textures, materials and high-end finishes combine to create an inviting atmosphere.

Fully funded by an N.I.H. Grant Award, the Access Center for Discovery and Learning is actively pursuing LEED Certification.

CENTRIA’s Formawall Dimension Series insulated metal panel (IMP) system was selected to complete the Access Center for Discovery and Learning project, not only for the product’s smooth aesthetic, but also for its high-performance thermal efficiency and moisture control features. With their lightweight nature, the panels lend themselves to easy installation.

Providing optimum thermal performance and moisture control, the Formawall Dimension Series panels include a factory foam-insulated core, minimizing insulation gaps along with a thermal break between the face and the liner. Utilizing pressure equalization along the length of the vertical joinery, the vertical panels provide superior weather resistance, creating a comfortable atmosphere inside the facility for both patients and staff alike.

Presented at an affordable cost, the Formawall Dimension Series insulated metal panel system offers a wide range of lengths and profiles, along with integrated panel components like windows, louvers and sunshades for an integrated, high-performance system. The panels come in smooth, striated and embossed surface treatments.

CENTRIA’s impressive palette of standard colors and coatings—and unlimited custom colors—also provided a major advantage to the build team. The facility’s warm, playful aesthetic makes a bold statement against Chicago’s urban backdrop.

The architect was D + K Architects of Chicago, IL; the CENTRIA products dealer/installer was Crown Corr Inc. of Gary, IN; and serving as contractor was Barton Malow Company of Chicago, IL.

The community health center measures 13,811 sq. ft.
