Norton Health Systems' Kosair Children's Medical Center-Brownsboro goes to great lengths to put its young patients at ease. Inside, oversized treatment areas allow parents to stay with their children, and visual and auditory distractions divert patients' attention during treatment. Outside, vivid colors and  sweeping canopies help to create an inviting first impression. Utilized in creating the canopies were brightly finished metal roofing panels from IMETCO.

Located in Louisville, KY, the four-story, $50.3 million pediatric outpatient center houses a 12,600-square-foot emergency department, a 15,000-square-foot diagnostic imaging area and a 30,000-square-foot outpatient surgery center. From top to bottom it is designed to help alleviate children's fears. Bright colors and cheerful art throughout the center provide a happy, friendly atmosphere. Children enter the facility through a four-foot tall door just for kids. Other child-friendly features include indoor and outdoor play areas for patients and siblings, lower windows allowing children to see outside, and two interactive "Mine Control" video walls.

The outside of the LEED-Silver-certified building is every bit as environmentally friendly as it is kid-friendly, thanks in part to the IMETCO Series 300 metal roofing creates a fun, rolling aesthetic with factory-formed double "S" curved panels on all canopies and the lighted ribbon that streams along the front wall of the building. FW Series wall and soffit panels were used on canopy soffits and penthouse walls. IMETCO metal roof and wall products contributed to the building's LEED certification with recycled content and regional materials.

Holland Roofing of Louisville of Florence, KY handled the metal roofing installation. The building's architects was Laughlin Millea Hillman of Louisville.
