Located on the aptly named Hospital Hill, Truman Medical Centers’ University Health Facility is a new addition for Kansas City residents. The four-story University Health Facility spans 90,000 square feet and was built to house a variety of medical disciplines, including orthopedics, gynecology, breast health, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and ear, nose and throat. Home to over 50 doctors with an outpatient surgical clinic and various other medical amenities, the University Health Facility is a healthcare haven.

As one of only two outpatient centers in the Kansas City, MO area, the façade of the new building needed to take eye-catching aesthetics to another level. To do this, architects at CannonDesign specified CENTRIA's Formawall Dimension Series exterior insulated metal panels to coincide with the cutting-edge technological advancements of modern day medicine happening within the walls. The ease of integration with windows allowed the architects to invoke both linear and diagonal sightlines that grant it impressive aesthetic designs. The nature of the panels allowed the architect to shape window space into sharp acute angles in stunning grid patterns. A Silver White Fluorofinish coating lends the façade a professional, contemporary air that makes the new building truly distinct.

Patient comfort is paramount in the healthcare field. Thus, performance features in the design of the façade were crucial. Top-of-the-line performance capabilities were needed to deliver efficient energy-saving features at a reasonable cost, and once again, Formawall panels deliver. With thermal and moisture efficiency wrapped into one, lightweight panelized component, the architectural team was able to save on immediate and long-term expenses. The durability and energy efficiency of the building is further amplified by the Fluorofinish coating, resisting fade effects from strong precipitation and debris.

The architect was CannonDesign of St. Louis, MO; the CENTRIA products dealer was Mays Maune McWard Inc. of Fenton, MO; the CENTRIA products installer was Cornell Roofing & Sheet Co. of Independence, MO; and the general contractor was F.A. Wilhelm Construction Co. of Indianapolis, IN. The facility is owned by Truman Medical Centers (TMC) & University of Missouri-Kansas City. The project was completed in May 2015.

CENTRIA products used on this project included:

• Formawall® Dimension Series® 3”-T Horizontal - Square Feet: 29,761; Color: Silver White; Coating: Fluorofinish; Finish: Smooth; Gauge: 22.
