When AMLI Residential planned its luxury apartment project along Seattle’s Lake Union waterfront, the design inspiration came from classic iconic transportation machines. Metal wall panels from AEP Span played a key role in bringing the design to life.

“The main building was designed to evoke a sense of sleekness and freedom. The smooth metallic and curvilinear form embodies the freedom associated with an airstream camper, a classic airplane, or the sleek shape of an automobile,” Tom Sheldon, AIA, Principal at GGLO Design, stated. “GGLO utilized the simplicity of AEP Span metal siding in order to achieve a curvilinear 3-dimensional form. In addition, the reflective and metallic nature of the finish enhanced the filtered light associated with the Seattle weather. Designing with metal siding containing recycled content material also assisted with LEED Silver certification.”

AEP Span’s 22-gauge Prestige Series® architectural wall panel in Cool Metallic Silver, Cool Terra Cotta, and Cool Dark Bronze is featured on the AMLI South Lake Union project. Prestige Series® metal wall panels come in four reveals which can be mixed and matched to offer design flexibility.

The contractor was Rafn Construction, Bellevue, WA. The metal panel installer was Exterior Wall Systems, Shoreline, WA.

The AMLI South Lake Union project is one of several AMLI Residential projects in the Seattle area, each with its own distinct design.
