Bayside Village offers off-campus housing for students attending any of six colleges in the Portland, ME area. The 200,000 sq. ft. facility is managed by American Campus Communities, one of the nation’s leading managers of upscale, academically-oriented student communities. The five story building consists of 100 four-bedroom apartments.
As a large urban redevelopment project, Bayside Village is designed with contemporary character and detailing that will help define downtown Portland’s first 21st century neighborhood. To that end, its exterior facades incorporate approximately 19,000 sq. ft. of Citadel ProCore™ plastic core panels finished in Silver Metallic color. ProCore is a field-assembled exterior cladding system that offers exceptional value.
The project was designed by CWS Architects of Portland. Ben Walter, AIA, the firm's president, said the project both blends and stands out from its surroundings. “The design for Bayside provides a contemporary vocabulary that contrasts and complements the traditional style of old Portland,” he notes. “Probably the greatest challenge was accommodating the high-density nature of the 1.3 acre site. But everybody likes the contemporary look and the aesthetic elements that make it pleasing.”
The Citadel ProCore panels interface with shot-blasted, ground-face concrete masonry on the lower three levels of the building’s façade. The installation of the metal panels was handled by Hahnel Brothers, Lewiston, ME. The general contractor on the project was Pizzagalli Construction, Portland, ME.
