The Lydian is the newest addition to Washington, DC’s Mount Vernon Triangle District. Located at 400 K Street, and part of a two-building development that includes the previously completed Lyric, the building has sought-after amenities and outstanding features. As a nod to its modernity and style, the 14-story structure is accentuated with a metal fin clad with ALPOLIC® aluminum composite panels and finished with a prismatic paint formulated from LUMIFLON® FEVE-based resins by AGC Inc.

Both the just-finished Lydian and the older Lyric, completed in 2014, were designed by Davis Carter Scott Ltd. of Tysons, VA. Each features the latest in contemporary living, from rooftop retreats to resort-style pools. Located in a much sought-after neighborhood, the new apartments offer modern living and easy access to local transit. In addition to contemporary living space, the buildings feature a trendy mix of retail and restaurant accommodations, with new businesses still being added.

Putting an exclamation point on the Lydian's design is the stunning prismatic fin. Created with ALPOLIC’s Dragonfly finish, its surface responds to both natural and artificial light, changing hues from green to purple. The finish, as the project’s general contractors at HITT Contracting describe, “…mimics the colors of its namesake’s wings [Dragonfly].”

The dynamic series of ALPOLIC Prismatic colors were developed by ALPOLIC and a coatings manufacturer using LUMIFLON FEVE resin technology. Each of the colors featured in the series has incredible depth that allows the panels to appear to change color based on visual perspective.

With regard to metal composite panels, FEVE resins are the primary choice for architects seeking a wide range of bright colors with higher gloss capabilities. Due to their excellent weatherability properties, these coatings are perfect for exterior building envelopes and facades.

ALPOLIC aluminum composite material is a product of Mitsubishi Chemical Composites America Inc.
