The Magnolia Bluffs Casino in Natchez, Miss. is located directly on the Mississippi River, situated on a bluff that captures picturesque views. Constructed of metal systems from Mid-West Steel Building Company, the casino is home to 580 state-of-the-art slot machines and 10 table games.
The Natchez casino is an almost 42,000 square foot clear span building with a total length of nearly 300 feet. The building partially hangs over the Mississippi River, which made it a challenge to build, as a portion of the construction involved driving pilings into the river to support a large portion of the structure. It features a drive-through drop-off area at the front entrance which features 89’ open-web trusses.
The Super-Lok metal roof with 6:12 and 3 ½:12 slopes was chosen to adhere with the local historic preservation efforts. Additionally, the building’s aesthetics were designed to mimic an old sawmill, incorporating cedar planking for sidewall panels throughout. Construction spanned a 10-month period.
The general contractor for the casino’s construction was R.A. Edgin Construction, Natchez, Miss.; the erector and roofing contractor was R.K. Wallace of Jayess, Miss.; and the designer was Ed Vance and Associates, Las Vegas, Nev. The building is owned by Premier Gaming Group, Union, Ky.
Magnolia Bluffs Casino was named the overall winner in the Mid-West Steel Building Company 2012 Design Build Competition.
