Approximately 1,000 sq. ft. of RHEINZINK® 0.8mm/22 gauge prefabricated 400 Series Square Tile finished in Preweathered Blue-Gray highlight the new Beacon Park Pavilion in Sidney, Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The layered, shell-like pavilion is a high-tech structure that recalls the traditional craft of shipbuilding. Four taut, thin wooden shells clad with RHEINZINK are stretched over structural ribs of engineered wood.
Design for the project was done by D’Ambrosio Architecture + Urbanism, Victoria, BC. The structure is simple, durable and finds poetic elegance in the straightforward expression of its purpose as an outdoor performance venue. The stage and canopy are located in the apex of Beacon Park with a popular pier and water as a backdrop.
Fabrication of the shell structure was done by StructureCraft, Delta, BC. Installation of the prefabricated 400 Series Square Tile was performed by ZS Enterprises, Burnaby, BC.
