Coatings division) produces a broad range of architectural and industrial coatings for coil and spray application to metals used in the manufacture of metal roofing, metal wall panels and components of all types and styles.
All of the company’s
coatings can be formulated in a wide range of colors with enhanced solar reflectance and emittance properties to help reduce urban heat island effects and the energy bills of individual buildings.
Background: At the time of its purchase
by Sherwin-Williams in June 2017, The Valspar Corporation was the fifth largest North American manufacturer of paint and coatings, a business it has been engaged in since 1806. For most of its long history, the company was a relatively small manufacturer.
During the last 30 years, however, it achieved Fortune 1000 status through an aggressive acquisition campaign.
With regard to the metal construction industry, key acquisitions included the purchase of DeSoto Inc. in 1990. The purchase
strengthened the company’s market-leading packaging coatings group, and elevated it to a leadership position in coil and extrusion coatings. A decade later, the company bought Lilly Industries, a leading industrial coatings company with an extensive
global presence. The acquisition moved Valspar into the number six position in worldwide coatings, and brought Valspar a broadened industrial coatings product line.
