Riddle Hospital’s new Health Center 4, located on the hospital’s campus in Media, PA, combines patient-centered design and environmentally friendly features. The $40 million, 80,000 sq. ft. medical office building embodies today’s best practices for creating new healthcare facilities. And like so many of today’s newest healthcare projects, metal wall panels—in this case from Metl-Span—are featured on its exterior.

More than 7,000 sq. ft. of Metl-Span 2” and 3” Architectural Flat insulated metal wall panels were utilized on the project. The panels were finished in two custom colors, Platinum and Medium Gray. In addition, approximately 800 sq. ft. of Metl-Span CFR 36 standing seam roof panels finished in Cool Metallic Silver were used on a pedestrian bridge.

Panelcraft Inc. of Boothwyn, PA, installed the Metl-Span panels. They were oriented horizontally in module widths ranging from 21” to 40”. “It was a complicated, complex job with unique detailing on each elevation,” said Richard Scharr, project manager. “Virtually everything was custom and required extremely careful field measurements along with field fabrication as needed. The design called for segmented panels at the top of the structure to follow the arc of the building and they turned out great. Metl-Span did a great job with the overall fabrication and the panels are certainly performing as expected. The Metl-Span dry seal gasketed system really delivers.”

Design for the project was provided by The Sheward Partnership, Philadelphia. The general contractor on the project was John S. McManus, Inc., Chester Heights, PA.
