Combining a variety of metal products from Varco Pruden Buildings, the AEP Ardmore Service Center in Fort Wayne, IN is both visually appealing and functional. The 84,000 sq. ft. facility features an inviting office area with maintenance shop space to service vehicles owned by the project's owner, American Electric Power Service Corp.

The AEP Ardmore Service Center was selected as the Best of Miscellaneous Category Award Winner in the 2018 Varco Pruden Hall Of Fame presentation.

The VP Builder, CME Corp. of Fort Wayne, IN, combined Rigid Frame, Hybrid and Conventional/Custom Steel framing in the construction of the service center, which measures 414'10" x 164'1" x 30'.

"We had several different spaces with 13 different roof lines that came together to form the building, which makes for a highly detailed installation," said a spokesperson for CME Corp. "The building incorporated a two-story open structure, conventional steel mezzanine, exposed exterior structural steel equipment platform, in addition to the roof lines - all of which connected into one building supplied by VP Buildings, which made erecting and coordinating the different spaces very detailed and challenging to get all to work together."

The multi-use facility includes a 26,000 sq. ft. office area and a 44,000 sq. ft. maintenance shop. The LEED certified building incorporates natural lighting with VP's PrisMAX SL™ skylights, VP's ThermalClad™ insulated metal wall panels, an Elaminator 300 insulation system, and a highly reflective roof color to maximize energy efficiency.

Metal roof panels were Varco Pruden Buildings' SSR and Panel Rib profiles in a cool white color. Metal wall colors were gray, red and white. Aluminum composite material (ACM) cladding by Kingspan was also utilized.

Completed in November 2017, the AEP Ardmore Service Center was designed by MS Consultants of Columbus, OH.
