The centerpiece of an emerging commercial and industrial site in Springfield, Mo. is a new trucking facility that brings both innovative design and more jobs to the small city. The new 60,000-square-foot facility for Diamond International, a service and supply company for the trucking industry, was built by Varco Pruden Builder™ Rich Kramer Construction Inc.

Designed by Butler Rosenbury & Partners, Inc., the two-story building is used as an office space for new and used truck sales, employee services, training and conference rooms. The building also has a two-story parts wing for parts sales, parts warehouse and parts “will call”. There is a service wing with 24 semi-truck service bays, two oil change/lube bays with oil service pit, a steam cleaning bay/room and two truck wash bays.

The facility was constructed using Varco Pruden’s Rigid Frame, SSR™ Standing Seam Roof system, TuffWall™ and ThermalClad wall with a Cool Cotton White and Cool Regal Gray Finish.

Through the construction of this new facility, Diamond International plans to add more than 30 new jobs to its existing workforce over the next few years. The company has more than 200 employees and four facilities in Missouri. Collectively, the logistics sector is significantly large in the Springfield, Mo. region. It provides an annual economic impact of $14.3 billion and makes up 8.3 percent of all jobs in the area. Supply chain and logistics are growing industries in the region, due to the strong advantages Springfield has to offer.

The new structure is in the New Prime Subdivision, a commercial and industrial site. The development is located off Mayflower Avenue along Interstate 44 in Springfield, Mo.

The Springfield Partnership for Economic Development, consisting of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, Springfield Business Development Corporation, Greene County, the City of Springfield and City Utilities, with additional support from Missouri Department of Economic Development, worked together with Diamond International to provide assistance through the successful expansion process.

Diamond International qualified for more than $600,000 in state and local benefits through the Missouri Department of Economic Development and the City of Springfield’s Enhanced Enterprise Zone tax incentive program to fund this project.

Dick Sweebe, Diamond Companies president and CEO, was pleased with the results.

“We could not be more satisfied with the steel building built by Kramer Construction. Varco Pruden, Rich Kramer and his team were very professional and provided us with a quality product and on-time service. They met all of our expectations and we are very proud of the facility they built for us,” said Sweebe. “Most customers have commented that this is by far the nicest truck dealership they have ever been in.”
