MAAS Aviation

Varco Pruden Buildings

Mobile, AL is the site of MAAS Aviation's first U.S.-based facility, a twin-bay airplane paint shop, capable of painting two A320 Airbus planes simultaneously. The 48,309 sq. ft. hangar was built by Harrell Construction Inc. of Jacksonville, FL, using Rigid Frame and Continuous Beam framing by Varco Pruden Buildings.

MAAS Aviation was selected as a winner in the Transportation category in the 2018 Varco Pruden Hall Of Fame presentation.

Completed in April 2017 and designed by Haskell Corporation of Jacksonville, FL, the aviation paint facility measures 195' x 285' x 63' high. The building's unique design features 285' Continuous Beam, flat topped transverse frames with one interior column creating two individual paint booths. The frames were erected in the same direction as the secondary roof members with 25-30' jack rafters to carry the purlins; each sequential frame was stepped down to create the roof slope. Adjacent to the twin hangars, there is 12,218 sq. ft. of office and mechanical area.

Approximately 74,000 sq. ft. of concealed-fastener liner panels were installed for the interior walls and ceiling. Other features include skewed non-symmetrical sidewalls; roof support members for paint platforms; and 247' wide, 46-6" high, three leaf multi-panel hangar doors.

Roof panels are Varco Pruden Buildings' SSR profile formed from Galvalume-coated steel. Wall panels are VP's RPR profile in Arctic White color.
