Structural Systems II, Inc., an American Buildings Company (ABC) authorized Builder, constructed the Museum of Transportation Visitors Center expansion giving the St. Louis, Missouri museum an additional 13,000-square-feet of indoor space and a new entrance to the 129-acre museum.

Structural Systems designed the expansion with a single-slope rigid framing style and Loc Seam roof panels. The panels were coated with SmartKote® paint designed to reflect solar rays more effectively and reduce the amount of heat that is absorbed into the respective building, saving heating and cooling costs.

Headquartered in Pacific, Mo., Structural Systems was awarded honorable mention in the 2013 ABC Excellence in Design Awards competition in the “government/institutional” category for their work on the Museum of Transportation. ABC’s Excellence in Design Awards presentation recognizes builders and roofers for their innovation and distinction in design.

The architect for this project was Fox Architects of St. Louis, MO. The general contractor was J.E. Foster Building Company of St. Louis, MO. The erector was Fastrack Erectors of Pacific, MO.
