A hybrid metal building system, combining Varco Pruden Buildings’ Continuous Beam framing with conventional steel and bar joist construction, was used to create the West Michigan Aviation Academy in Grand Rapids, MI.

The 27,000 sq. ft. academy – which includes classrooms, offices, cafeteria and gymnasium spaces - is covered with Varco Pruden’s SSR, a standing seam roof system formed from Galvalume-coated steel. The exterior walls are clad with precast concrete wall panels and insulated wall panels.

The Varco Pruden Builder was a.j. Veneklasen Inc. of Grand Rapids, MI. The Designer was Integrated Architecture, also of Grand Rapids, MI. The project was completed in September 2012.
