In September of 2004, Hurricane Ivan destroyed the original shingle roof on the Country Inn & Suites in Destin, FL. More than 24,000 sq. ft. of PAC-CLAD 24 gauge steel Galvalume Snap-Clad panels finished in Forest Green were utilized to re-roof the hotel. In addition, 10,000 sq. ft. of Forest Green flat stock was used for trim and detail work.

Installation was done by BEL-MAC Roofing, Inc., Santa Rosa Beach, FL. According to project manager Bryan Sallee, “On the front of the hotel, the shingles were completely ripped away down to the plywood. But on the back side, we were able to put down a peel and stick layer and install the Petersen panels over the damaged shingles.”

The hotel never closed during the installation. “We had to work around guests and be as unobtrusive as possible. We lifted the panels by crane to the roof at the rear of the building. It was actually a pretty smooth job,” says Sallee.

The greatest challenge was working around out-of-square dormers. “There were lots of hips and valleys on the roof and we had to square up dormers that were up to ½” out of square. That can make a big difference when making a long run so we obviously had to make corrections,” Sallee said.

Fabrication for the detailing was all done on-site. The PAC-CLAD panels were shipped cut-to-length from the Petersen plant.

The general contractor was Greenhut Construction Company, Pensacola, FL.
